Wherever I look, I see a lot of waste being generated. Is it hospital, industrial, or domestic waste?
Now as I see lots of waste, I also see lots of money-making opportunities.
I learnt recently in Ghana, that they now produce bags for export, and guess the raw materials for the production of...... [view]

Man has already proved that unchecked, unregulated exploitation of seals and whales have indirectly taken many other species of organisms to the endangered levels. This means, what constructive work nature did in millions of years, man was able to destroy just in couple of decades. Today, with...... [view]

So I was at a fairly big event the other day, and it was officially labelled a “Zero-Waste Event.” Awesome! The world needs more of those… Except, it wasn’t REALLY zero waste. They were handing out water in non-recyclable cups, people were bringing in non-recyclable...... [view]

Description: Plastic bags are a big part of pollution in Kathmandu and developing parts of Nepal. I will carry a reusable shopping bag with me (of cotton, jute, etc.) most of the time I go out so that I can SAY 'NO THANKS' TO PLASTIC BAGS offered with goods I buy. This way I will help in the reduction of plastic waste.
I will also encourage my family and friends to do the same. [view]

Description: I'm from a resourse-less small country in far east and I often feel uncomfortable about waste and indifference about it in this country (U.S.). I do believe plastic bags for shopping will be extinct some time in the future in New York but I'd like to accelerate that speed, hopefully! I myself use a cotton shopping bag. In my hometown (city in Tokyo), a municipal government charges five cents for one plastic bag (strictly speaking, the reality is a bit different) to promote "bring your own bag" and my-bag-ratio is increasing. I could see that super markets in New York sell reusable shopping bags nowadays (a big move!) but I rarely see them in use at cash registers. How can we promote "my shopping bag" or guilty feeling to use plastic bag? (Let me know your thoughts!)
As a first step toward my goal, I'd like to convince at least one person "to bring his/her bag" for shopping. [view]
